Its a pretty amazing feeling to see that it’s our homestead now! The process to get here has taken some time – there have been a lot of ups and downs but we are so grateful that God has provided for our family each step of the way. I have to say right away – we have so many friends and family and they were such a blessing to us throughout the moving process. Without them, its hard to think about what trying to get our stuff out of the house or into this house would have been like.
Moving on
The process of moving out of our old house was a huge undertaking – we ended up having to move twice! First, our stuff had to come out of the house, but because the closing would be on a Friday and we couldn’t arrange an overlap between the old house and the new house, we had to move out the prior weekend. And then we had to move in the weekend after the closing!

Throughout the process, you never really realize just how much stuff your family has accumulated until its time to move it! We ended up needing the biggest U-Haul truck, plus a couple people’s trucks, and a trailer or two in order to get it all together and get it all to the new house.
Because of the two part move, the first weekend move was a move into the garage….
The Split Time
For a week or so, our things mostly lived in a garage, and we had the bare minimum. Matresses on the floor, a single couch – everything else was already moved. Even my desk. Thankfully, I could work from church for a couple days, because otherwise the library and other possible places were closed due to COVID.

After several days like this, it came time to get the last bits out of the old house. Bit by bit, the house became emptier and emptier. Finally, as we closed into the last few minutes on the evening before going to a hotel for the night, he house was completely bare, dark, and moody.

A New Start
This is the start of A Grateful Hearth. The real start. With an actual homestead! Lauren and I feel so excited and yet there is a lot of work in front of us. Our plans are still developing or specifically how we will use certain pieces of the land, and we have so much to learn moving from suburbia to the country!

After moving our first wave of stuff into the house on the first night, we start our time here under a full moon! It feels amazing, and intimidating, and exciting, and tiring all in one go. Walking around “the” farm and now in the mindset of being “our” farm is an amazing feeling, and we are so looking forward to what is ahead! Its our homestead.
